New Quay, Ceredigion

One of several glorious sunsets during our trip to Wales.  It looks like the sun is reflecting off the sea but in fact the sea surface is the dark area lower down.  So is this something to do with refraction or reflection off a layer in the atmosphere.

Looking through binoculars, you could see the colours go rapidly through the spectrum as the sun disappeared.

Then all you could see was red spots for the next half hour.
