Lighthouse on Coquet Island

Trip to Alnwick for a supermarket shop; and we managed to acquire a couple of light shades at the DIY store next door.

The obligatory dog walk beforehand - on the beach at  Alnmouth this time. Coquet Island, several miles away, is an RSPB nature reserve, and home to a large colony of nesting seabirds. It is specially protected under European law for birds such as the roseate tern, one of our rarest nesting seabirds. There are several thousand birds on the island in summer - including terns, puffins and eider ducks.

The public are not allowed to land on the island which is designated a sanctuary.
