Scotney Old Castle

Today we were orienteering around the Scotney Castle estate. Could not resist visiting the castle and gardens afterwards. 

The old castle dates back to the 1300s and was left as a partial ruin when a new castle was built in the mid 1800s and the family wanted a ruin in the garden as was the fashion then. This must be one one of the most beautful ruins in the country. It passed to the National Trust in 1970.
