Hernando's Hideaway

Went for a spin around the West Mainland.  CMC was all over the Birsay beach looking for groatie buckies - only finding 6.  Which was apt as the temperature was only 6 degrees.  We then went to Aikerness beach for ditto.  No dittoes had been washed up.  Today was the day that the place to meet folk and catch up on the news was the Dounby Co-op.   CMC’s nephew updated us on: A fake sick line, school-leavers and a damaged joint that’s required three stookies to date.  He also told us the latest ‘Aitken’ tale.  Aitken is a very patient man who makes Orkney chairs.  Recently he has been plagued by a neighbour (Finlay, bachelor, 74) who keeps turning up at meal times.  Aitken was totally scunnered last week and once again had to share his mince and tatties with Finlay.  Thinking it was about time he put a stop to it Aitken made sure that when he had finished his own mince and tatties Finlay was watching him.  So Aitken put his plate on the kitchen floor for the dog (Flossie) to lick clean.  Once licked clean he made sure Finlay was still watching as put the plate straight back in the press and not in the sink.  He hasn’t seen Finlay since.

I made a quick tea of macaroni bake and salad and then retreated to the Shack for R and R.  Another exciting week awaits.
