One species each day (from my backyard)
After another, beautiful autumn day working on the bamboo floor, I got to the stage where I could now tidy up my tools. As I wanted to pick up the sanding belts I noticed this male cave weta relaxing on one of them on this balmy evening. I photographed a female on 12 April, but was unable to positively identify it to its genus name, let alone to its species name. So I was reluctant to upload it here. That, and the fact that most of my free time was taken up with completing the floor, and a period of bad weather, prevented me from uploading one species each day. Now that I saw this male I decided to try again. Although there are some very detailed descriptions of weta genera and species on the internet, I was unable to find a matching description for this one. But, it's another species anyway, so although I've been unable to identify it, I've decided to upload it anyway. If I can find a name for it later on I'll comment on my own post. I got the name from someone who specialises in the taxonomy of wetas: Isoplectron calcaratum
