Paper wasp nest macro

The neighbours chopped down two overgrown conifers and found the paper wasp nest so brought it over for me to use as a blip.
Not sure if it is the Australian or Asian paper wasp. They chew paper and other items to make a very thin papery wall in many layers then add the little cells for the larva. They are useful in that they eat caterpillars and bad bugs but they don't distinguish between good and bad so also eat the monarch butterfly caterpillar.
They add a secretion round the base to deter ants which would eat the brood.
A wet day although it has only been light misty stuff so far, so a good day for an inside shot.
I have added an extra to try out the new feature from blipcentral. I tried a red background but in the end preferred the silver.
