ANZAC DAY
Today we honour and remember all the Kiwis and Aussies who went away to war to fight for freedom and we also acknowledge those who stayed at home, especially the women, who not only continued with their household and child rearing duties, but also worked on farms and factories and businesses to keep their countries from economic collapse.
I especially remember today my own wonderful parents, who because of the war, were exposed to responsibilities far beyond their years and life experience. They are my heroes!
If they were alive today, they both would have been 89. My Dad was 17 when he signed up for the Navy. He served on HMNZ Gambia and after the war they both worked in the Navy Office in Wellington, which is how they met.
Mum and Dad, along with all those who have served, I Salute You!
