Matakitaki River
I was up at the crack of dawn, not to attend the dawn service, but to milk the cows. After breakfast, we all went to our local ANZAC service at 11am. There were a lot of people there (including children), which was pleasing to see. Some friends came home after the service for a cuppa and a catch up, a nice relaxing way to finish off the morning.
After lunch I headed down to one of our local rivers, the Matakitaki, which flows into the Buller River, and eventually ends up in the Tasman Sea at Westport.
These are the old remaining piers from the original Matakitaki Bridge - previously a state highway. The (new) state highway bridge is now further downstream. It's the first time I have actually seen these piers. Previously they have been underwater - just goes to show how low the river is running at the moment.
