A Day of Empire

Dundee's McManus Gallery & Museum is currently playing host to the British Museum's "Roman Empire: Power & People" exhibition.

I read about this touring exhibition several weeks ago and it was just a matter of finding a free date in my crazy diary to go up to Dundee to see it. Wednesday 22nd April looked promising and so the train tickets were booked - entry to the exhibition is free and it runs until 10th May - and a day out was planned. Bus to Stirling, train to Dundee and return the same way.

It wasn't a huge exhibition, but it was interesting nonetheless and had some excellent artefacts from all corners of the Roman world. It was well laid out, too, with helpful information boards saying a little more about the way the Roman Empire 'operated'.

Wednesday was another day of glorious weather, which meant that the museum was very quiet (who, part from idiots like me, would choose to spend a bright, sunny day looking at museum pieces?) but I had set aside that day for a visit and glad I did. A wee bit of culture never did anyone any harm.

Oh, and I did find my diary double-booked as I was meant to be at a meeting in Falkirk that morning. Oops! Prior engagement and all that.
