Yes it is carved out of some mangrove root and we have various hideous carvings all over the garden.

The purpose if the blip is LUPINUS or Lupins as we know them in the UK. This is an attempt to blip a flower as this seems to be a popular pastime at present.

What I didn't know was that the seeds are edible as described here and date back to Roman times.
