Holy Monday - Buxheim

One of Tochterpleach's first journal entries I saw back in December 2013 was taken in a church in Buxheim and over the month's she posted a few more from the village and highly recommended it, even for it's dog walk possibilities.

Buxheim is almost part of Memmingen but is an enclave, belonging to the "county" of Unterallgaeu. I can't understand why I haven't been there as it's well known locally. Better late thannever and Tochterpleach was very right. Turned out to be fascinating.

Had tp drop off some "samples" at the urologist in Memmingen and had taken the dogs knowing I would only leave them for 5 minutes in the car with the sun blazing down. Then made the very short drive to the village center of Buxheim which quite simply seemed so tranquil and pleasant. Took a shortish walk around part of the 10th century "Charterhouse", in 1402 a Cartusian monastry and  since 1926 a Salesian monastry. The history is to detailed for here but Wiki has a good English description.

Having the dogs along meant I couldn't go in any buildings and understandably they were getting bored and restless at not being allowed off the leash. So we moved to the Buxheim Lakes area, well nown for it's annual summer lake festival. The area turned out to be a paradise for dog walking particularly for those in built up Memmingen. Loads of routes in the forest/woods and lots to see.

We even got to see our "home" forestry manager who suddenly appeared in his car at the small lake the dogs were having a paddle in. He was followed by a small tractor with a trailer and dinghy. Turned out they were doing some surveying work to make a change from clearing fallen trees.

Shortly before we had stopped to chat with someone with a chocolate coloured labrador. Turned out his name was Kevin, an Englishman who moved here 10 years ago. He and his wife are at the Weiherhaus Restaurant & Hotel alongside the mai  lake. As happens when two Brits meet; we got straight in to the "oh how I miss" mode. Branston Pickle, Cheddar, proper bacon........... so I didn't find out whether they are running it or employed there. Kevin did invite me to come and have a cup of PG Tips though. Said I would do so another day when Angie was with me. Seems the hotel is open all year but the restaurant is closed in winter - this year reopening is on 1st May should Tochterpleach have a yearning for a cuppa when she gets back from her foreign parts tour!

Then popped in to the big electrical market in Memmingen to get Angie a set of plastic mobile phone foil protecting thingies.Ended up buying her a LED TV for the bedroom. She likes to disappear early evening to watch football (Bayern Munich) while I watch Sky News. The TV is an early 1990's square/heavy/bulky Sony which my old company was throwing out in 1999. the new one can brew tea, hoover the bedroom, feed the cats and measure your blood pressure, at least that is what I understood from the salesman. As is nowadays you don't get a full instruction book with the equipment but need to go online to download the 561 pages of details - oh and of course it is connected via WLAN to the internet. I am still looking for the On/Off button even though the box says it is a "Smart TV" which I thought meant it could detect a person's presence and turn itself on.
