Memory lane!
This is Akebia quinata, a lovely climbing plant that has chocolatey-maroon flowers that have an earthy, spicy-sweet frangrance that remind me of my time in The Gambia... I can't remember exactly what it was that smelt like this does but it reminds me of how it felt to have a whole new world to explore.
I also love the plant for itself- the unusual flowers are stunning and I had one of those moments you have when you look back at a photo you've taken and notice something new about the subject- that is that the nectar is exuded from the tips of the six projections in the centre of the flower, which you can see glistening in this image. The plant also seemd very popular with the nearby bees and hoverflies!
