Titanic's predecessor

This is a tombstone for 9 victims of a virtually unknown shipping disaster from 1904. The emigrant ship Norge foundered at Rockall, 250 miles west of the Hebrides, with the loss of 700 lives. It was concluded that if sufficient life-saving apparatus had on board the Norge, the loss of life would have been considerably reduced. This conclusion was not put into law, so Titanic was designed with too few lifeboats for all on board - leading to that massive loss of life. We remember victims of both tragedies.
