The Loe
This was the last of the locations that we visited today. The Loe pool is the largest fresh water lake in Cornwall & unusually it is only separated from the sea by the Loe Bar which is a gravel spit. The Bar blocks the estuary of the River Coba (see right of picture) and has been there since the 13th Century or so.
The Loe is reputed to be the lake where Sir Bedivere threw King Arthur's sword Excalibur. It shares this legend with the Dozmary Pool on Bodmin Moor which we have also visited just out of curiosity !
We started the day very slowly. My feet were a little on the murderous side & we were both plain tired. We drove down the Lizard and headed for Mullion where we drove up to the headland opposite Mullion Cove Hotel which we have visited before. We found a bench & tucked into egg sandwiches whilst looking out towards the west and over to the NW to Mounts Bay. From here we drove down the the cove & walked the harbour wall & then found a tea shop for some refreshment. Back in the car to another headland where you can look down on Church Cove where we went on Sunday. The scenery here is just stunning and today the sun was hot & the views hazy but worth the look.
From here we travelled on to the Loe where I thought we could walk down to it quite easily however we parked up & walked for 15 minutes before turning around. My ankles are pretty bad today & I need to save them for our trip to the Eden Project tomorrow.
We left here & picked up some food for tea & returned to the pad for an easy relaxing evening.
Not sure if I mentioned this but the weather is stunning.
Oh yes and in my picture I am standing in a field of daffodils looking down to the sea.
Thanks to everyone for their kind comments & stars.
Enjoy your week ...
