Portsoy Pottery

Posting earlier tonight, as I had such difficulty last night!

This is the piece of pottery that I purchased at Portsoy (try saying that quickly after a glass or two!!)  As well as being very attractive, it actually has a practical purpose.  Can you guess what it is?
