...and as we wandered on our afternoon walk, chewed gumnuts and leaves were raining down from the trees.

Red tailed Black Cockatoos were sitting high in the tree munching and discarding.
Bush guru J can tell from the way a gumnut has been chewed which bird has chomped on it.
The different species' beaks have a different configuration and the way they attack a nut leave different marks.
These tiny nuts look like they have been peeled open with a can opener.

Oh and the nuts are popcorn size.
