Marsh-Marigold

Marsh-marigold is probably one of the most ancient native plants, surviving the Ice Age and flourishing after its last retreat, in a landscape inundated with glacial meltwaters. This cluster is growing at the perimeter of the North Baljaffray pond. Certainly the landscape in this part of Scotland was sculpted by ice about 10,000 years ago. Good to have reminders of our fleeting sojourn on this planet and to work with nature. Beyond the marigolds are the pointed leaves of the yellow irises which produce a glorious display later in the year.
