The high road

In Praise of the Ox-Eye Daisy

At this time of year and throughout the summer, the ox-eye daisy transforms meadows, grassy banks and roadside verges into beautiful carpets of white and gold!
Last year driving out from Skiibbereen, alongside the Ilen River was a verge of Ox-eye daisies stretching for a couple of miles, it was a sight to behold, the flowers glistening in the sun. I made that same journey this evening and the whole stretch had been sprayed with roundup and was dead, brown and very ugly, I just don't get this mentality!
Yesterday on my way to work, I stopped to blip a view and noticed the Ox-eye daisies and other wild flowers were being mown in the graveyard, all but a tiny patch! The gardener had left a much bigger area but was instructed to cut them because they looked untidy! What is this obsession with a sterile green sward that has no value to any bee or butterfly !
Do see freespiral journal today, we both needed a little rant!
