Fort Pulaski...

...was built to guard the river approaches to Savannah, & was named after Count Casimir Pulaski, the Polish hero of the American Revolution. After Georgia seceded from the union in January of 1861, the fort was occupied by Confederate troops. President Lincoln ordered a blockade of all southern ports, & the blockade gradually strangled the Confederate economy. In Nov., the Confederates abandoned the fort & the Federals acted quickly to take it back. 
This morning it was pouring rain but looked like there would be a break in the weather, so headed out to Tybee Island with MarEScarey, Maura143 & NJoyce68, where we saw Tybee Island Light Station & had a look at the beach & the ocean. It had stopped raining by then, so we stopped to see Fort Pulaski on the way back to the hotel. I picked up Tom & went for lunch, then we went down to the waterfront, where there were several buskers, lots of boats, lots of shops, & lots of seagulls, some of which were being hand fed by a lady & her friend. They thought it was so funny, but the birds were getting really nasty among themselves as they fought  for the handouts! 
A great way to spend a Sunday!  :))
