Llay Miners Wheel
This giant wheel is located in the grounds of the Llay Miners Welfare , about four miles from where I live. It was built around 1926 because the colliery owners wanted to provide their workers with good recreational facilities.
Although the institute still stands, is open daily and is used heavily for local functions coal hasn't been mined in the area since 1966 when Llay Main closed.
