Grylls Monument

It was built in1834 at a cost of £384 .the money raised from a subscription paid for by local miners. Humphrey Grylls was a Helston Banker and Solicitor who was poplar due to securing the funding necessary to keep Wheal Vor Copper Mine open and in doing so saving the jobs of more then 1,200 men,women and children at this time (1830) the closing of the mine would of had serious implications for the local economy and would of ment extremely hard times .Helston Flora Day on May 8th is when school children dance around the bowling green also the midday dancers.
