Nurse, the screens!
There's just a month to go before the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT) and plans to mark the day are well underway here in Liverpool.
I've somewhat inadvertently got very involved in the planning process and it's good to be working alongside a bunch of people who really walk it like they talk it! Take Lorraine, for example. In her day job she's Subject Head of Nursing at Liverpool John Moores University and she's a fount of knowledge on all things health and social care related - but she's also very active within the LGBT community, not least as a stalwart volunteer with Queer Notions, a voluntary organisation which provides support to LGBT people experiencing mental distress. I first met her when I did a stint as a volunteer about a decade ago, I'd guess, and now we're going to be running a workshop together for IDAHOT on Sunday 17th May.
But the day won't be all about workshops! We're also planning a great afternoon of entertainment and food, with some exciting special guests, at the Redmonds Building on Brownlow Hill. I shall doubtless report back in due course...
