Scar on the landscape....
I've noticed that there has been a very large amount of forestry operations going on all over the area. Some foresters are tidier than others.
I was speaking to a retired gamekeeper on the hill today. He reckons it may all be to do with Phytophthora ramorum which is a nasty disease of larch trees. It has appeared in Dumfries and Galloway and has been spreading for the last four years - so this may be to create a kind of cordon sanitaire.
