"Tobacco and snuff manufacturers"
At the ripe old age of 49, I think I'm finally getting the hang of managing my chronic procrastination. For those who are unafflicted by this malaise, you need to understand that this is not only about relying on deadlines for motivation, it's also about the phenomenon whereby on those occasions when you do complete something with time to spare, you feel slightly disappointed, like you've missed out on some drama and an adrenaline rush.
But, as I say, I'm dealing with it pretty well these days. Hence, this morning I completed something that doesn't need to be finished until Monday, which I did by recognising that I'm off work for the next two days and I don't want to work at the weekend, so in fact, my deadline was today.
Actually, I finished with so much time to spare that I managed to get across for a meeting in Kendal, this afternoon, which was taking place in the Town Hall, which is on the corner of Lowther Street. After the meeting, I was walking back down that road when I saw this fellow, high up on the wall. As I write this, I've a slight feeling of déjà vu and I wonder if I've taken a photo like this before. (I don't suppose it matters and I bet I repeat myself more often than I think!)
It's interesting, though, that there was a tobacco and snuff manufacturer in Kendal. It's easy to think that manufacturing products like these have always been in the hands of big companies as it's what we we've been used to for so long. I was wondering whether there might still be equivalent small businesses still running in the UK. But then again, who'd want to run a business manufacturing goods that kill people?
