My new desk is at the far end of an open plan office.
It takes longer to get to the door.
But I am practising walking
in the longer time it takes to cross the floor I try
to re-establish sense of purpose strength poise
feel my breath inflate my lungs
the stretch of my hips pull the skin across my belly
too-tight muscles, tender tendons of legs not used to running
jar
gently as my feet hit the floor
my skirts swirl around my thighs
And in the space between the desks I can remind myself to
just check
that I'm still
on track.
* PS had great fun trying to take this photo, twirling like a whirling dervish behind the bookshelves when no one was looking. At least I think no one spotted me.
