Sgwarnog: In the Field

Eskmeals Viaduct

The first cooler day of our holiday saw us take the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway down the valley to the coast. Once in Ravenglass we walked a stretch of the Cumbria Coastal Way around the head of the peninsula, and then back over to the port via the Roman bath house remains. The tide was out, which gave us an expanse of mudflats and tidal streams and the Oystercatchers were in full voice.

This spot is looking along the Esk to the Eskmeals Viaduct, which carries the Cumbrian coast rail line. At other stages of the walk I caught the Northern sprinter trains as they crossed, but I like this image of just the bridge and the salt marsh. Later we saw a range of butterflies which eluded identification and a day-flying Speckled Yellow moth.
