No squirrels on Ailsa Craig!
When the RSPB took over Ailsa Craig, one of the first things they had to do was get rid of all the rats that inhabited the island in 1991. The rats had arrived via a shipwreck and had killed off most of the bird population by eating the eggs etc.
You would not find a squirrel on Ailsa Craig with his foot on a rock from there today. This little fellow looked most unimpressed and didn't look very excited as he sat there nibbling nuts and suet cake.
The whole gang appeared in the garden today starting with the hedgehog at 5:30. I could only just make out the shadowy lump on the patio and wandered out to him with some breakfast mealworms. He is spoilt!
The goldfinches came soon after that but I gave up watching and ate my crunchy nut cornflakes.
It was a quiet day to start but soon got really busy. I was late logging off and am going to have problems on Monday I think as I kept getting error messages about nearly being out of disk space. It's not space on my laptop either but the server I connect to. Oh well...no point worrying about Monday now! I shall try to enjoy the weekend instead.
That's it. There were doves, starlings, blackbirds, tits and pigeons visiting today but I didn't have time to catch many.
