Diamond Windows

I took a quick visit to this National Trust property, A la Ronde, in Exmouth this afternoon.  Its a 16 sided property that was built for two spinster cousins, Jane and Mary Parminter, on their return from a grand tour of Europe in the late 18th century.

It has many unusual features including these diamond shaped windows that look a bit like road signs from the outside,  but are much more striking from inside.  The rooms within this 16 sided house were allocated so that the bedrooms caught the early sunlight followed by the breakfast room etc and the occupants would progress around the house following the light.

The views from the building across the estuary are also striking. A place to come back to and spend more time I think.
