Khao San Road
Not many photos for today.
We arrived in Bangkok at the somewhat uncivilized hour of 0630. Met (eventually) by our guide. Our expected itinerary for today was that we would go to the hotel, hopefully be able to access our room, but if not, doze in the public area until it was ready, then have a trip around the Thonburi area on a longtail boat in the afternoon.
Our guide persuaded us that this was not a sensible plan - it was better to have our trip immediately, whilst it was "cooler". Our baggage would be safe in the car, and then afterwards we would go to the hotel.
The only problem was that I was unrested and feeling very sticky after a night on the train and not having bothered to change into clean clothes (expected to do that after getting to the hotel). So I was not really in a "place" where I felt inclined to take photos.
We had what felt a bit of a "whistle stop" tour of the Thonburi region - sort of Venice type area of Bangkok. We were in the hotel by 11 and fortunately they were able to give us access to our room immediately at that point.
It's another quite upmarket hotel, on the opposite side of the river to most of the main part of Bangkok, but offering a free 24hr ferry service. We have a mobile phone provided by the hotel, and just ring when we want to get back across the river.
We dozed in our nice air conditioned room through the heat of the day, and then went out in the evening. We found an exchange, and also prospected out a laundry. (The hotel offers laundry of course, but at 40Baht (nearly £1) per item of underwear this seemed somewhat ruinously expensive, especially once we discovered that the innumerable laundries across the river do 1 kilo for about the same price!)
We then wandered on a bit further and found Khao San Road. I took a few photos. It was only as I was looking through I realised that I have captured W helping another tourist to get a photo.
