Rue-leaved Saxifrage
After a busy morning ordering equipment for the year's surveys, and trying to organise fieldwork dates, we felt the need to get out into the sunshine. We headed to Stanground Wash, so that I could carry out my photographic monitoring, but on the way we stopped off to record the spring flora of one of the car-parks on the Fengate industrial estate. It had a wonderful range of spring annuals, including sheets of the tiny Rue-leaved Saxifrage Saxifraga tridactylites, which survives in the most hostile environments. Finding six leaf rosettes of Bee-orchid Ophrys apifera was somewhat more surprising!
