Tough at the top

More amazing weather and fabulous views today. We visited Fountains Abbey near Ripon. I'd seen a number of ruined abbeys on my recent St Cuthbert's Way walk, so wasn't quite prepared for just how wonderful this one would be. It's absolutely huge with beautiful grounds and water gardens around it. They have a performance of Macbeth there in July and I bet that will be really atmospheric.

I walked with my nephew Louis up to a viewpoint called Anne Boleyn's Seat. This was the vista ahead of us. As I'm reading Hilary Mantel's Bring Up The Bodies at the moment, I was fully up to date with my Tudor history and ready for all his questions.
