What every good wall should have! 

I presume there was once another property attached to this end wall. The wood is most likely from several centuries ago - there are a lot of old buildings in this little village in Sussex, some dating back to medieval times. It does look rather strange, though, as does the extra bit of brickwork sticking out. I'm sure there's an interesting history behind it all.
