Bus Challenge No 55!!

Long story short!!

Set off early with friend by bus to Bristol Airport to catch connecting bus to medieval village of Axbridge in Somerset. Second bus didn't stop and drove straight past us! Bus only goes once an hour so no point waiting for next bus. Axbridge wasn't going to happen!! Rather than giving up on day out, friend suggested we visited Arnos Vale Cemetery in Bristol. So took second bus into Bristol, then connected on to third bus.

A strange destination you may think, but Arnos Vale is far more than an ordinary cemetery. It is:

"A place of heritage containing many listed buildings and monuments of regional, national and international importance. A place of tranquillity, a 45 acre haven of peace and quiet in an otherwise busy part of a bustling city. A place of respect where more than 300,000 people are buried or remembered, from much-loved members of ordinary Bristol families to those who changed their world or sacrificed their lives in war. A place for wildlife where many fascinating wild plants and creatures thrive, adding to the enjoyment and interest of visitors and providing wildlife with an essential green corridor that helps an abundance of species to survive."

I'll be the first to admit that cemeteries are not my top choice of destination, I find them very unsettling, but it was a beautiful day and it was a very tranquil place full of primroses and birdsong. And they even had a very modern all-glass café that did wonderful gluten free chocolate brownies!  I took lots of photos but I've deleted the majority of them because when I look at them I get that unsettling feeling (can't explain myself better than that), but I did quite like this poignant statue, set amongst the trees...
