Wildlife on the C&O Canal

This is a picture of one of the many forms of wildlife that we saw during our C&O Canal hike.  We were walking down the trail when we met this little guy crossing ahead of us.  We kept a respectable distance while passing it and I figured that I had better take a picture, if for nothing else to scare my mom at a later date.  Since you’re probably wondering now, I didn’t because someone tipped her off and she knew I took a picture of a snake before I even got back to the car.  Anyway, even though it was a long hike, it was extremely worth it because of all of the things that we got to see.  Whether it was the historical landmarks, the scenery, or the wildlife, we all had an urge to just keep trekking on.  Besides the snake, we also saw some turtles, deer, and surprisingly a bunch of eagles.  For anyone who enjoys hiking or just getting out, I highly recommend visiting the C&O canal because it gives you the ability to take as long or short of a walk as desired.  There are also some cool things there to see that was used when canals were the preferred method of transporting goods.
