Theatre? Ham it up!
After failing to visit Ham House on Sunday (see previous blip), today we attempted a return match & I'm pleased to say tea & cake were successfully indulged in!
Currently Ham House is hosting "Garden of Reason", where 17 contemporary artists have been invited to create new pieces in response to the 17th century gardens.
I'm afraid I was a bit underwhelmed by most of it, but for some reason I really liked this one.
"Theatre of Flora", by Kathleen Herbert, attempts to draw parallels between today's finacial woes & "Tulipmania", current when Ham House was at it's peak, when fortunes were made & lost speculating in tulip bulbs. The recorded voices of actors reading translated phrases from 1637 Dutch pamphlets, are played randomly from the loudspeakers.
