Having Read

Having read, recently, about a Catholic priest
who had his teeth knocked out by Islamic extremists

- with a hammer!

(“We have all night and you have a lot of teeth”)

I find it hard to believe there’s a benevolent being up there
with a grand design, a master plan.

Hammer! Teeth!
How could He bear it?

Most of us are down here
doing the best we can.

Sometimes we stand and stare,
in awe,
at grand designs.

(The man-made and the naturally spectacular).

Sometimes we turn our backs on them
and relish our significance
and our insignificance
amongst all that towers over us.

We enjoy a conversation.
A moment in the sun.

We leave footprints in the sand.
Move on.
