Gardening for ladies
Today, amongst frustrations of a different sort, I did manage to get in a bit of gardening, which was lovely. I think it got up to 22 degrees, so I was out there in sleeveless shirt and sunhat, trying not to lobster up. I'm having to be careful and move slow as my back is really not healed yet (hence the title of this blip, nothing much to do with the talented Jane Loudon), but that gave me plenty of excuse to watch the butterflies and hover bees and the robins and blackbirds feeding their families. I even noticed the moment when my pink tulips began to split and unfurl.
I hope, whatever you were doing, you had a little corner of the day that fulfilled the same purpose...
What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.
No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
