Large Reclining Figure: Small Sitting Boy
Today was spent in the company of my 10yo Grandson, William. He chose two destinations so we started off with a fascinating underground tour at the National Coal Mining Museum of England, near Wakefield. A quick trot around the exhibition galleries was followed by a visit to the friendly retired pit ponies, Eric and Ernie and the pit head baths (which were actually showers). After rounding the morning off with a good lunch in the cafe, we headed off to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park about 10 minutes drive away.
The current major exhibition of Henry Moore's work, entitled "Back to a Land", was captivating. We also paid a visit to Barbara Hepworth's "Family of Man" beautifully placed on the hillside - one of my personal favourites. William also gave some handy photography tips as I tried out my new camera's macro capabilities. The weather warmed up as the day went on, so there was further refreshment before setting off home in time for tea.
We both had a lovely day and William is planning some more days together in the summer holidays.
