WELCOME RAIN
A quick trip to B and Q for some maintenance essentials was interrupted by a faulty fire alarm. As it was a senior citizen discount day at the end of May, there were 200 grey haired people and forty orange aproned staff in the car park for 25 minutes. When the five fire engines left, someone waved at the fire fighters who waved back and then a spontaneous cheer went up. Not sure if it was stimulated by the brave and handsome fire fighters, or by pleasure at getting back to the shopping for bedding plants and barbecues.
The Professor is under the weather. Nothing serious, but it meant a couple of trips to the surgery and pharmacy. Spend some time this afternoon trying to construct a fruit cage for the rasps. It is a bit precarious, but provided we don't have storm force gales as we did last July, it might just stay up long enough to harvest the fruit.
After a few half hearted attempts, the welcome rain arrived about 9 pm, just as I was about to set up the sprinkler. I potted away for a while in the greenhouse while the light lasted, enjoying the spectacle of the garden relaxing under the rain. I swear the sunflowers shot up 5 cm in 20 minutes. Paused briefly on my way back up the garden to gather some oregano for drying. It is wet, muddy and filling the kitchen with fragrance.
