They shall not pass!

I was amazed to watch a pair of feisty water thick-knees try to stand in the way of this fairly large water monitor. Presumably they had a nest somewhere in the vicinity and monitors are notoriously partial to eggs, including crocodile eggs when the chance arises. Needless to say the lizard calmly walked past the protesting birds as though they weren't even there!

I only have this and other shots from the same day as I was on a boat trip with the wonderful Shakabarker Tours and provided them copies which they were kind enough to copy back to me following the burglary at my cottage at the end of June.
