Carol: Rosie & Mr. Fun

Monday, April 13, 2015 -- Driving into Cayucos

Several times in the past, I'm sure, I have posted a photo that looks very similar to today's. As we crest the slight incline leaving the community of Morro Bay and round the bend, we see our little community of Cayucos. Well, it's actually not ours and we don't yet get to call it "home" because we have not permanently moved here, but someday maybe. For now, it still feels like home. It is at least our "happy place" and that is because we both very much love the ocean.

When we woke this morning and pulled open the window coverings, we could not see the horizon. The gray of the ocean was a complete blend with the gray of the sky. No definition. Overnight, it was as if someone had changed the season and moved us back into winter. And we loved the change. Bright sunny days here, as we have had for the past several days, are wonderful, but so too are wintry days.

I dressed warmer today with several layers. We would be going to the Farmers Market in Los Osos/Baywood Park in the south of Estero Bay. The temperature is usually cooler there and it was today.

Our routine on Mondays when we are here is to go to the Farmers Market to purchase homemade vegan soup from Stephanie, who is a delicious soup maker. We left the house about 1:15. Steph starts taking orders at 1:30 and then at 2:00 the market officially opens for the vendors to accept money. During that 30 or so minutes we walked our three dogs over to the edge of the back bay.

The moment Mr. Fun parked the car and stepped out to take our canning jars over to Stephanie, he looked at me and said, "It's cold." Then he asked if I wanted to forego walking the pups. "Nope! I'll put on my hooded sweatshirt and I'll be okay."

So we walked the dogs for 20 minutes. Then put them back in the car and walked over to Stephanie's booth to get our soup. I also walked through the Farmers Market to see what the other vendors had and purchased five avocados, a bunch of carrots (our dogs love them), a three-pak of strawberries, and a little over a pound of baby zucchini. All of that was enough.

So driving back to the house, once again we found the north part of Estero Bay to be clear of fog and somewhat warmer. Then later before the sun set, the horizon again lost its definition and offered a silver chrome winter scene. So in the warmth of our sunny front room, Mr. Fun snoozed and I enjoyed a cup of coffee and read. I'm sure the coffee is the reason that I am still wide awake as our clock now nears midnight.

From California's Central Coast,
Good night,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
