This is the stage I can appreciate in the life cycle of these dreadful weed trees that are just outside our fence. The cottonwood poplars will soon be shedding sticky catkins into our yard, sending up shoots into the lawn and flower beds (no vegetables as they blanket the yard in deep shade) then compost bins and more bins of leaves in the fall. The parks department informed me that they no longer plant such nuisance trees in residential neighbourhoods. On the plus side, they pump gallons and gallons of water into the air so no need of costly drainage installations. End of rant.
