Eyam Plague Village
Today we went to see Eyam Hall and also discovered that Eyam was a self quarantined village some 500 years ago. Plague was brought up by a merchant from London and the reverend in the village encouraged the whole village to stay self contained. Neighbouring villages would bring food in exchange for money left in bowls of vinegar. Two thirds of the village population died, but the plague did not spread.
The photo is a cave near the site where the reverend gave his speech to the village and where church services were held during the plague as the church was thought to be too risky to have gatherings as it might be contagious.
You might be able to see R in the shadows.
