Renny to the rescue
The first lesson I always try to instill in our new drivers is to pay absolutely no attention to villager son the status or condition of a road to a village. Walk the route.
Yesterday our pump team went to survey five new villages for well locations. The chief told them that going down a steep inclined goat track was OK because it led to a flat path and then on to a regular (mostly inaccessible, but only) rural road. However he forgot to mention the missing bridge.
Our guys had to turn around and found that there was no way out except back the way they came and of the side of Mount Everest!!
Of course I got the call to get them out, in the dark!
Renny is from the UK and here for a short while helping us out.
His timing was perfect, as he was our only hope. There was no plan B
He came and winched us out inch by inch up what seemed almost vertical inclines.
Maybe lessons will be learned.
NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY: walk the journey first and appreciate the limitations of your vehicle, in this case a 2005 Mitsubish Colt , no 4X4 and a dodgy gearbox. The best we can do at the moment
