Return to the North

4 seasons in one day

It really has been the epitome of the line from the Crowded House song down here today.
I headed down into Glenorchy mid morning and took the top shot - sunny (if a little blustery) and 13 degrees. This was after gale force winds that blew the patio set over and thunder and lightning during the night!

The forecast wasn't flash so I headed into Queenstown. I had left my old walking shoes in the UK so wanted a pair for local tramps (have 4 season boots and trainers but nothing in between) I had tried Katmandu and Macpac to no avail so headed into Frontrunner in Q'town. Perfect, chap (from Pontefract no less) was helpful and tactful, suggesting I look for American shoes because they have a broader fitting! (obviously America has a LOT more fat people!)
Anyway I walked out with a perfectly fitting pair of Merrels. Knowing what new shoes can be like I only gave them a little work out in Arrowtown, followed by a roast lunch at the Irish Bar. Oh and catching some of the Arrowtown autumn festival- much hilarity being had on the Main Street with some 'obstacle' race going on!
I returned mid afternoon to Glenorchy where the temperature has dropped to 6 degrees and where the second shot was taken! Oh and there's snow on them hills !
