From the top
I decided to go for a jaunt into town this morning and ended up atop Carlton Hill. I thought I'd get a shot of Edinburgh while it was still sunny. The weather forecast is for rain the rest of the weekend.
The Nelson Monument was open and despite living here 11 years, I've never ventured up. Designed by Robert Burn, the Craigleith sandstone monument was completed in 1816. Synchronised with the 1pm gun from Edinburgh Castle, the monument acts as a tool to allow ships in Leith Harbour set their chronometers and aid navigation.
The top of the tower is 562 feet above sea level - and you get panoramic views of the City. There was a sign outside boasting the best views in Edinburgh - that's got to be worth the £4 and 143 steps right? I'll let you decide...
In other news I also ventured out for a wee run, the first since my illness, the first run in 2 weeks now! I kept it brief at 1.5 miles - just a wee tester really. I really am learning to be sensible aren't I? I felt ok and there was minimal coughing, so I reckon it's ok to go out properly again!
