I walked through St George's Fields again today (yesterday's pebbles were still there) but this time had a closer look at some of the stones that have been collected together at the north end. According to Wikipedia this was a major cemetery for Leeds in the past, but the university took charge of it and it was returned to essentially a field. A few monuments, presumably too big to move, remain in what I am guessing is their original place, but many have been moved and collected together in clumps. Apparently there were no exhumations, so everyone is still down there somewhere - one hopes a map was made of the plots before the stones were shifted. One of the paths is actually made of the stones, they are all the same and I think they might be military monuments.
