Scandalous and Artistic Washington DC

Today I woke up and found myself in Washington DC!  (Yes, it sometimes takes a few moments (and opening the curtains) to figure out where I am!).

It was a beautifully sunny and warm day!  I decided to take a walk in the 'Foggy Bottom' neighbourhood and along the Potomac River and take some pictures of two of the most famous and infamous buildings in DC.

Those who are old enough will recognise the Watergate complex at the top left - site of the 'Watergate Scandal' in 1972 which eventually caused the resignation of President Nixon in 1974.  The complex consists of 5 buildings, most of which house up-market apartments, offices and the Watergate Hotel.

Next door to the Watergate Complex is the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, aka 'The Kennedy Center'.  Built in 1971 it consists of a Concert Hall, an Opera House and a Theater.  It's the busiest arts complex in the US, with approximately 2000 performances a year.  I'm afraid in all the years of flying to DC I've never attended anything there as we usually get in too late to make it to a performance, and leave too early the next day.

Washington DC is famous for its Cherry Blossoms.  Although it's a little too early for the full display, I did see just a few trees here and there in full bloom.  They're in their peak for such a short period of time, so I hope I still get to see them on my next trip!  Stay tuned!

See my blip from 22 April 2014 for last year's Cherry Blossoms.
