RAF Halton

Today it was another day out and another gloriously sunny day.
The RAF Masirah and RAF Salalah Association had a visit arranged to Royal Air Force Halton to visit the Air Museum and the Trenchard Museum. Fascinating stuff, of great interest to anyone interested in aircraft or the history of RAF Halton, it's got quite a history right from back in 1922.

The visit also included us being invited to be guests at a passing out parade of new recruits that had just finished their 10 week 'Square Bashing' period. It involves a lot more than square basing (marching and drill). Exercises out in the wilds, physical and mental nightmares that push you to the limit, general service knowledge about the RAF and other branches of the UK Military, weapons training and more. Lots packed into that few weeks.
Relatives of the recruits were present and we had front row seats, the drill was a joy to watch, excellent marching etc. Reminded me of Julia's passing out in January 2009 except we were freezing to death!!!!
