Between fen and mountains

Meltwater

The river can be heard before it is seen.  We crossed over it to go to French conversation.  At this point it is fairly tame as it has been canalised to prevent a repetition of the disastrous floods that destroyed part of the village band the main hotels in 1940.  A couple of hundred metres further down it narrows and becomes far more picturesque.  In the morning I prepared materials for the afternoon's class, made some chicken stock for a soup I will finish tomorrow and made a quantity of pumpkin soup.
